Kinja'd!!!

I was swapping wheels last night and the jack was caught on a peice of gravel, it pulled itself off the pinch weld and did this. Lesson learned to not rush and do things with inadequate lighting. But....

I haven’t posted about any of my cars in quite a while, and the latest development is that the RX8, which you see dented above, is starting its transformation into competing in D Street Prepared for autocross. Already have wheels and tires worked out, currently working on aero, have a plan for suspension(kinda), and everything else is in the works. I am excite.

Ouch, that sucks. Question though, why are you jacking at the pinch welds? I used to do it that way until I started bending the welds. Now I just put the jack on the frame instead.

I’ve gone back and forth... With the RX8 the frame rail(if you can call it that because unibody) is wayyyy under the car, most jacks can’t reach it with the height of the car, and having bent pinch welds isn’t the end of the world. Also I’ve managed to dent the ‘frame rail’ on this thing just by jacking on it, I think the pinch weld is stronger.

Good point, I forgot about actually getting a jack under an RX8.

My BRZ has a similar dent, but not from jacking. Somehow managed to hit the deepest pothole in existence when creeping through a parking lot. :(

I'm also a tad bit lowered, it makes things difficult.

That's actually the exact jack I was using. Haha. Although they've changed the design and it uses a steel lifting arm now :(

That sucks. I've managed to smash my pinch welds on bumps a few times. It's a terrible feeling.

How the hell do you even fix that??? Replace the whole rocker?

I’m not exactly sure... That piece doesn’t just come off though, it’s welded and part of the car. I’m gonna swing by my buddy’s shop and see what he thinks.

The only way I know how to is weld a rod on and use a slide hammer to pull it, shapin it back in would be quite difficult though.
